MARKHAM’S ROCHA IS OJHL WARRIOR EAST PLAYER OF MONTH

January 5, 2024, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced today that Gavin Rocha of the Markham Royals has been named the Warrior East Conference Player-of-the-Month for December after he tallied 21 points during nine games – including 17 assists.

In his first season with the Royals, Rocha has amassed 57 points (13 goals / 44 assists) during 36 regular season games. The Bradford resident skated for Blind River in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League last season. The 18-year-old played minor hockey for the York-Simcoe Express and Newmarket Renegades organizations.

Rocha will represent the Royals in the 2024 OJHL All-Star Game in Collingwood on Jan. 13.

Ryan Forberg, Rocha’s linemate, was runner-up to Rocha in voting for the East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The Thornhil native had 10 goals and nine assists in nine games during December. Forberg leads the OJHL scoring race with 66 points (29 goals/37 assists). September’s East Conference Player of the Month will also play in the All-Star Game in Collingwood.
