Markham Royals Player Billeting – Join the Royal Family

The success of a junior hockey player is dependent on many things including skill, coaching, teammates and their home life. For a lot of the players in the OJHL, achieving their on ice success means personal sacrifice. Often, players have to move far away from home to pursue their dreams.  Ensuring that players have a safe, nurturing environment to succeed on and off the ice, is of the utmost importance to the Markham Royals.

The influence a billet family can have on a young player can create bonds that last a lifetime. The hockey club greatly values the sacrifice billet families make to host Markham Royals players. Billet families are invaluable to the Royals and we appreciate all of their dedication to the team and the kids.

Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience. As a billet family, you play a very important role. By opening your home to the players you provide them with a stable and secure home away from home.

The Markham Royals request that any families which may be interested in billeting for the upcoming season to please review the following information below.

If you are interested in becoming a billet family, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page or contact the Markham Royals Head Coach Mike Galati by email at mikegalati01@gmail.com, or VP of Operations Jodi Lanzarotta at JLanzarotta@rogers.com.

Notes and Frequently Asked Questions

Key Responsibilities include: making the player part of your home, providing a bed and personal space for the player in your home, providing nutritious food/meals for the player, providing a clean and stable environment, working with team management to enforce team rules/house rules, helping players learn skills that will enable them to become more responsible on and off the ice.

Billet Families Will Receive:

  • Monthly compensation (Too Be Determined)
  • Free entry into all Royals Home games (Regular Season and Playoffs)!

Do I have to cook all meals for the players?

Not always, we just ask that you provide healthy and nutritious food options. Most players are capable of making their own meals. Each player may have a different diet or need (i.e. allergies, lactose intolerant, vegetarian, etc) and more information will be addressed during a billet house visit.

Do we have to live in a particular area of Markham to billet a player?

No, most players will have their own vehicle and can travel to the rink on their own. We would prefer billet families be within a 15 minute drive of the City.

Are there guidelines and communication supplied by the Royals to assist our family in the process of hosting a player?

Yes. Our Billet Co-ordinator is available to you by phone or email throughout the season to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have, as well as act as a liaison to the team management.  A meeting is held between the players, billet families, billet co-ordinator, and team management at the beginning of each season to go over the Billeting Guidelines so that everyone has all pertinent information at the outset.

Can we host more than one player?

We will tour your home as part of the process of determining whether your family would be a good fit to host a Royals player.  If you have space to host more than one player and would like to do that, please let us know and we will help you determine if that is an option.

Please complete and submit the form below to give us starting information about your housing situation. Our Billet Co-ordinator will be in contact with you after receiving the form.
